Ramble. Rumble. Roar.

The inner workings of the british art student.
Rambles,Rumbles and Roars. All day to day events and occurence's in relation to my art.

As mentioned below the sixth was my starting date for my foundation art course. The pictures above are what the tutors had us doing, to loosen us up and give us a taste of what it will be like.

Both of the tasks had us challenging our pre-convieced notions of what sellotape & cardboard are like as materials to work with. Listening to  the sound it made as well as its other properties enabling us in the task of creating something out of the materials.

The sellotape challenge was where we had to use one roll of tape to fill a square. I took the square thing literally and decided to fill it, i originally wanted to make it once continuos ordered line. It didn’t end up like that, more like random lines building up layers with some pulled up and others stuck to the floor. So not very ambitious & rubbish in comparison to everyone else’s. The other sellotape image was my other attempt at the challenge. I was gonna make a 3d version of the space occupied by my feet…ended up looking more like an apple so added a stalk for humour.

A similar task was applied to the cardboard but as small group, we had to create a space and link it with another groups. The end results was to be a maze of shelters & rooms. Playing with cardboard reverted most of us to want to make tunnels to crawl through like children, but it was fun and got us all talking. The maze filled the whole room and had some impressive rooms, one group made a toilet….

Overall a scary and intimidating start to foundation, i need to start breaking out of my box more!!

Something i’ve noticed recently is that brands & stylists have nodded in the direction of ‘Where the wild things are’. Mulberry with their clothing and the ad campaign & Rita Ora with her crown worn in her latest music video. I like that fashion is taking its cues from children’s books once again, makes it less serious & more fun!! Something that i think it should always be.

Nan Lawson & Life

Sorry I’ve been away for a while, but now im back but i doubt for long. I start a foundation art & design course on the 6th so life is about to get busy again. However i will be going up to London soon to visit two current exhibits which i will post info about nearer the time.  To tie you over until then though i thought i share with you one of my favourite artists Nan Lawson, she recently video’d her working process which is very cool. I have two prints of her work so it was great to see how they were created.

Two silly & too serious! Just some work i recently saw, liked & thought i would share. This is worth sharing though, as i try to not reblog but rather post my own stuff. But i think i’ll share some work that i like maybe on a daily basis until i return to college.

Stuart Morris

I originally thought when i saw this that the lines were stitched or drawn directly onto the sculpture. Its neither its drawn directly onto a photograph. Love it though especially since it made me seem silly….as if someone would be able to stitch onto marble!!

Helen Friel

These caught my eye for the colour and the randomness of these pieces. Really well done and very cool stuff!!

The pineapples and bedazzled banana are because i went through a fruit phrase for one of my projects all because of a pineapple tea-light  holder from habitat. But yeah thought they were cool : )

Filling in my time

Considering that i have finished a two year course, my summer has been free from summer art projects to be ready in September. I would normally be filling in my time by visiting London galleries with friends but i am not a patient enough person to be stuffed in a train with sweaty annoying tourists. So instead i have been reading a couple of blogs and just becoming re-inspired ready for the hell that will be my foundation year.

Here are just a few from today, take a look. Hope you enjoy : )

These are some of my friends work from the two year course we were all on, i’m in a nostalgic mood so thought i would share. All of them are from the second year the two fashion items are fmp and the knife crime was an earlier brief.  I love each of them and hope you do also.

We are all dreamers

Just some work from my two years that i never posted, all from different briefs.

My aim is to be this happy & active when i’m at that age.

I went to the New designers exhibit today with my friend, i had never been before but she had recommend it to me as a great chance to look at the universities that do the subjects im interested in. They showcase all their final work to the general public, the students are also standing by ready to answer to questions you may have about the work. I bought just the one day pass that cost me £11 and its worth the money as there is lots to see, it was rather busy when we went which was annoying and at times its was slightly off putting not being able to have a good old nosey round and comment on the work through fear of the student being behind you. However it really enable me to see the universities works without them all yelling out for attention.  You can pick up business cards and prospectuses at each area which i did and found helpful but it was alot to carry so luckily the website has a list of all the exhibitors so i can then do some more research via the website. I recommend anyone interested in art, design or fashion to go and take a look.
